ELA Blog Assignment # 4: Short Story Idea

“Flashes of light raced around me as I stared up at the ceiling. I felt barely conscious, but I knew I would come around. I clenched my fist together, as I felt anger rush through me.” Drayden Marsch lay still in a dull hospital room, silence surrounding him. He starred at blank walls in an uncomfortable bed. Sharp pains seized through his body. Confusion surrounded the situation; he had no conscious memory of coming to such a place. What had happened? What odd occurrence had transported him to this mysterious new place? He had no conception of time, how long had it been since his last conscious memory, riding his bike down the highway in the pouring rain. He remembered the feel of harsh drops of water, slashing across his broad face. Why had he even left his house? The security he once knew, the comfort he desperately wanted. The sound of a truck horn had blasted from within his ear drums. Could he move, could he escape, and most of all, where was he? His family would wonder where he was, what he was doing. Faced with unfamiliar surroundings, and a desolate future, he could only hold on to the memories he had. Drayden’s mind raced, he began to question his surrounding, his reality. What was real and what was his mind simply playing a game with him? He faced an intellectual battle to remember where he was, what dangers he might be facing, and what was on the horizon for him. Dangerous reality, or an unsettling dream, this was the decision Drayden had to make about everything that surrounded him.

Ian's Blog Assignments # 2 and 3

Keep Sake Items

A) Favorite Memory:
- Going to Hawaii with my family
B) Something that is important to me now:
- My Dog
C) Hope and dream for the future:
- Travel to Italy

Part 2

A) Every time I look at my minuscule piece of volcanic rock, I am reminded of my first trip to Hawaii. I can still remember seeing the Haleakala craters extravagant size and expansive layout of red colored dirt and rock. I remember picking up the small piece of rock, and proudly placing it in my jacket pocket, where it could safely remain as my personal treasure.

B) His red and black spiral leash hanging on the hook in the mudroom of my house. This image sends the immediate thought of dog walking into my mind. Whether it is bundling up in the cold of January to embrace a frozen walk down the street, a pleasant stroll down the street in the presence of falling leaves and beautiful autumn colors, or a scolding hike across bone dry pavement in the midst of a July heat wave, this is almost always the scene when it is time to take my dog for a walk.

C) Every time I see a bowl of spaghetti, I am reminded of the Italian culture that feasts on this delicacy known as pasta. Pasta radiating with flavor, stimulating my taste buds, causing my nose to flow like a rushing river, or bringing a smile to my face from complete satisfaction. There is a reason pasta is classified as a comfort food, since every time I eat it I feel all the worries of my day floating away, becoming consumed in a taste of the Italian lifestyle I dream of one day taking part in.

Ian's Persuasive Paragraph

If I could choose any career, I am convinced that working at Hollister would be better than being a Physician. Sitting in a smelly office, surrounded by illness, disease, and agony. People crying out in pain, wallowing their worries, and not respecting your time. Seeing people with the same problems, the same issues, and a lack of luster for life. The vibe at a doctor’s office is mellow, unentertaining, and never an adventure. No one looks forward to going to the doctor’s office, but everyone loves Hollister. Who wouldn’t want to make new friends, smell great, and have an awesome time occasionally helping customers? At Hollister you are surrounded by students just like you who want to have fun, and make cash too! Hollister is a great place to serve others, listen to music, and make a desirable income.
